Engineering, Production & Quality Workflow

Design · Development · Production · Electronics · Quality · Product History

One-Line Description

A configurable industrial production workflow for customer-specific products, preserving design files, development actions, departmental responsibilities, manufacturing stages, and quality-control history.

Core Purpose

For industrial equipment, the delivered product may be customized for each customer.

The system therefore needed to record not only:

  • what product was sold,

but also:

  • what was designed,
  • what was changed,
  • what was manufactured,
  • which department performed each stage.

The exact departments could vary by company.

Customer-Specific Product History

The platform’s goal was to preserve the history of a specific customer machine.

This could include:

  • drawings,
  • modifications,
  • files,
  • development notes,
  • production stages.

Design Files

The commercial and engineering sides could access relevant product drawings and technical files according to permissions.

Department Separation

Industrial companies often have separate departments such as:

  • mechanical design,
  • electrical/electronics,
  • production,
  • casting,
  • quality control.

The platform allowed these responsibilities to remain separated.

Permission-Based Visibility

A department should only access the portion relevant to its work.

Configurable Production Stages

Historical screenshots show configuration of production-stage metadata such as:

  • stage name,
  • icon,
  • color,
  • associated information/actions.

This is important because production flow was not assumed to be identical for every product.

Quality Control

Quality Control existed as part of the production domain.

Its responsibility was to record and supervise product quality-related observations and decisions.

Control Production

Historical development notes show explicit work around production-control functionality.

This supports the interpretation of production as an active workflow rather than a passive status field.

Engineering History

A strong V2 should preserve:

Product Instance
├── Design Revision
├── BOM Revision
├── Development Action
├── Production Event
├── Quality Event
└── Attached Files

Immutable Engineering History

Historical technical records should not disappear when a design changes.

Use versioning.

Drawing v3

Each production instance should remain traceable to the exact version used.
