Technical Training at Ferdowsi University — ICDL, Android Development & C++

Extracurricular University Workshops · Curriculum Development · Technical Instruction · Practical Skills Transfer

Period: Approximately four academic terms, beginning in Mehr 1395 (September/October 2016)
Institutional context: Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Agricultural Economics faculty/unit
Role: Invited workshop instructor and independent creator of the teaching materials
Audience: Master's students approaching graduation
Domains: ICDL, Android programming, C++ programming

Portfolio Introduction

I was invited to deliver a series of extracurricular technical workshops organised by the Agricultural Economics faculty/unit of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad for master's students approaching graduation. The initiative was intended to strengthen practical computing and programming skills alongside students' academic education.

Across approximately four academic terms beginning in Mehr 1395 (2016), I was responsible for three teaching areas: ICDL (practical computer skills), Android application programming, and C++ programming. I independently prepared the educational content and delivered the workshops in the university's computer-lab setting.

This was an invited teaching assignment within a university-organised extracurricular programme, rather than a claim of a permanent academic appointment or membership of the university's faculty. The organisers provided participation certificates for students and invited instructors.

The Educational Challenge

The participants were approaching graduation at master's level in a discipline outside computer science. The workshops therefore needed to connect software and computer literacy with tasks students could recognise and use, while also introducing programming as a structured technical skill.

The work required more than presenting a predefined slideshow. It involved assembling material suitable for the group, turning abstract computing concepts into practical classroom explanations, and delivering the courses within a supervised computer-lab environment.

My Responsibilities

I managed the instructional preparation and classroom delivery of my assigned subjects:

  • Curriculum preparation: organised the material independently for the ICDL, Android, and C++ workshops.
  • Instructional content development: prepared the explanations and supporting learning materials rather than relying on a fully supplied course package.
  • Contemporary reference review: consulted current online training resources, including LinkedIn Learning, to review the state of the relevant tools and course material at the time. This was a reference and benchmarking activity, not a claim of LinkedIn Learning affiliation or certification.
  • Experience-based teaching: used practical knowledge accumulated over approximately four years working with the typist teams at Astan Quds Razavi to make computer-skills training operational rather than purely theoretical.
  • In-person instruction: delivered workshops using live demonstrations and the university's classroom/computer facilities.

The Three Teaching Tracks

01 — ICDL and Applied Computer Skills

The ICDL track focused on the practical side of computing: understanding and using everyday computer and office tools rather than merely recognising terminology. Its teaching approach benefited directly from my experience supporting real-world document-processing and typist workflows at Astan Quds Razavi.

The surviving classroom photographs show a projected spreadsheet interface and students following the instruction at desktop computers. They support the presence of hands-on office-software teaching; the exact full ICDL module-by-module syllabus would need the original course notes for further detail.

Portfolio relevance: end-user computing, workflow-oriented training, clear technical explanations, and knowledge transfer to non-specialist audiences.

02 — Android Application Programming

The second track introduced participants to Android software development. As the instructor, I was responsible for preparing and delivering the course material, placing programming within the more tangible context of mobile applications.

Portfolio relevance: teaching programming concepts, presenting a software-development workflow, and adapting a technical subject for students without assuming a computer-science degree.

Documentation boundary: the historical Android language, IDE version, framework dependencies and student project outputs should not be claimed without the original syllabus or archives.

03 — C++ Programming

The third track covered C++ programming. Its inclusion made the workshop series broader than office-software training: students were also exposed to general-purpose programming and the way software is expressed in code.

Portfolio relevance: instructional competence across both application-focused programming and general-purpose coding.

Documentation boundary: no particular advanced C++ standard, library, algorithm syllabus or certification is asserted from the surviving evidence alone.

Instructional Method

The teaching material was developed by combining three kinds of input:

  1. Current learning resources: reviewing contemporary course material, including LinkedIn Learning, to benchmark content and tool versions.
  2. Prior operational experience: drawing on four years of experience with administrative and typist workflows at Astan Quds Razavi.
  3. Independent preparation: organising and creating the material for the specific workshops and delivering it in person.

This approach connected practical office-computing experience with programming education. It also required translating technical terminology into explanations suitable for an interdisciplinary graduate audience.

Setting and Programme Format

  • Hosted within Ferdowsi University of Mashhad for the Agricultural Economics student audience.
  • Extracurricular workshops for master's students nearing graduation.
  • Approximately four academic terms, beginning in Mehr 1395 (2016).
  • Instructor invited by the programme organisers.
  • Course-participation certificates provided through the organisers for students and invited teachers.
  • Delivery in a practical classroom/computer-lab setting.

Important distinction: These workshops were a university-organised programme; they should not be described as a tenure-track post, a university professorship, or delivery of degree-credit lectures unless separate documentary evidence establishes that.

Evidence Available

The retained historical social-media post and photographs document the teaching period. In the available images:

  • a computer-lab setting can be seen;
  • course content is projected on a screen, including a spreadsheet interface;
  • students are shown at desktop workstations;
  • documents/certificates associated with the educational activity are visible.

The original caption also mentions a broader history of instruction at other educational settings. This Portfolio entry is deliberately scoped to the specific Ferdowsi University extracurricular workshop programme described here; any other institutions should be documented separately if dates, courses and institutional arrangements are recovered.

Outcome and Professional Significance

This assignment demonstrates that I was not only developing software or supporting business users, but could also design and deliver a structured technical learning experience to graduate-level students from a non-computer-science field.

The combination of ICDL, Android development and C++ shows range across practical computing and programming. The independent preparation of the instructional materials also adds evidence of course design, technical communication, audience adaptation and practical mentoring.

There is no need to invent a student count, pass rate, official course accreditation, or measurable employment outcome: the documented value is the sustained university-organised teaching assignment itself, carried out over approximately four terms.

Interview Explanation

“In 2016, the Agricultural Economics unit at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad invited me to teach extracurricular computer and programming workshops for master's students approaching graduation. I was responsible for ICDL, Android programming and C++. I built my own course materials, reviewed contemporary online learning resources to keep the subjects current, and drew on about four years of experience working with the typist teams at Astan Quds Razavi. I then delivered the workshops in the university's computer-lab environment over approximately four terms. It was an invited workshop teaching role, not a permanent faculty appointment.”
